The Supreme Court of the State of California, U.S.A. issued a new ruling, which would increase the cost employers have to face if they fail to grant their non-exempt employees with regular rest and meal breaks. These benefits are rightfully provided for employees according to a state statute. According to the Labor Code of California, Section 226.7, when an employer fails to grant non-exempt employees with rest breaks or meal periods they rightfully deserve, the employee can be entitled to a one hour of pay for every break period missed.

A recently concluded study focused on injuries caused by kids’ roller shoes showed that a substantial percentage of kids sustained injuries when wearing roller shoes and mostly during the period when they are just learning to use them. The jury of a Lake County court deliberated for about 3 hours and decided to award $2.03 million to an illegal immigrant’s family. The case was a wrongful death lawsuit against the city government of Waukegan. The total amount to be awarded to the family by the jury is $2,032,992. The $2 million is compensation for the demise of a member of the family. $20,000 is compensation for the expenses during the memorial service and internment and the $12,992 covers medical expenses.

The Ethan Allen, the certificated public vessel of New York State, with 47 passengers on board, capsized near Cramer Point after encountering some waves generated by some vessels on its starboard side.
